What To Do Before Calling for Emergency Furnace Repair
If you have no heat or your furnace won’t turn on, try to troubleshoot the issue yourself before calling for an emergency furnace repair. We never recommend an unlicensed person try to fix a furnace on their own. However, here’s a checklist of things homeowners can do before calling HAMCO’s emergency service for furnace repairs.
- Check the air filter to make sure it’s not dirty or clogged. Replace if necessary.
- Check that the thermostat is on and set to HEAT, not COOL.
- Replace the batteries in your thermostat if need be.
- Check that your furnace wasn’t accidentally switched off.
- Ensure that the furnace hasn’t tripped the breaker.
- Make sure all the vents in your home are open.
- Check that your furnace’s external vent pipe is clear and not clogged.
- If you suspect there’s an issue with the gas line connection, call your gas company.

Derek, Im sorry this review is tardy. I really meant to get something here sooner. Derek visited my home for a semi-annual furnace and A/C checkup. He began by asking whether... I had noticed anything troublesome. Yes! I could not regulate my Google Nest thermostat. I explained how it seemed to have a mind of its own getting colder when I preferred a comfortable 21 C, and doing all kinds of weird things. He suggested a non-programmable thermostat and quoted a price. He checked out the furnace, changed a filter, and cleaned out some debris from the A/C unit outside. Then I asked whether he had time to swap out the thermostat. Happily, he had one in his truck and in the blink of an eye, he had me fixed up with a new thermostat that doesn't have a mind of its own! I was introduced to Jordan at a bbq on a Thursday afternoon. He was very personable & knowledgeable and told me he would pass my info along to his office to book an... appointment. Within 2hrs the office called and had me booked for a diagnostic (out in Caistorville) within 2 days. Very good customer service on the phone - live person there whenever you call. Called on Thu afternoon and Friday morning the technician - Najim - came to check the problem... with my AC. Unfortunately the fixing estimate came to half the price of a new unit so we desided to order a new one. Same day they called me with an appointment for Monday morning! Right from the prompt response to my call, the honesty and integrity from the sales department when I was desperate to replace what I thought was a system in need of... replacement, I was so impressed with this company.I wasn't able to get the original installation company to return a call, book me a service appointment, or acknowledge the fact that I had left emails, called and needed a service before I could use my ductless unit. It doesn't perform well to start with, so I wasn't going to start it up without a service and cleaning. After 3 1/2 weeks of the hottest month in history, I got tired of living in a convection oven, and finally found Hamco. Many HVAC companies don't service ductless units, and I was desperate at this point. Their team was friendly, efficient and professional. They didn't sell me a new unit when I thought I needed it, Christian cleaned it up, testing the unit properly and took the time to explain the size of the unit, why it was working the way it was, or why it WASN'T cooling as efficiently as I had been expecting it to, and gave me some potential future options if I wanted to upgrade. He left it running, with us finally having a/c for the first time this year! We couldn't be happier with their service and will only be using them moving forward! Thank you again Christian!!read more

Update: We just had our annual maintenance done and as usual, the booking and service were done efficiently and professionally. Cameron was pleasant and before servicing the... furnace and AC he was happy to answer a couple questions I had. Pleased once again with Hamco's service.We were recently faced with our 17-year-old furnace breaking down and beyond repair. Despite the extremely cold weather that resulted in a larger number of service needs for Hamco, Najim met with us in just over 24 hours, spent time accessing and explaining the situation and offering the best options for the needed replacement. He worked to get us up and running quickly with a Saturday install and left us with a space heater to ease discomfort overnight. He was personable, knowledgeable and took time to ensure we were happy with the decision we made. It wasn't an expense we had planned for but Najim eased the situation with his excellent customer service. He was happy to answer any questions we had and worked to ensure we got the best price and service possible. Veronika and Shemar arrived early the next day to replace our furnace with a new Daikin. They were also personable, professional and efficient. We feel fortunate to have Hamco to count on with HVAC needs. They have a great team of people who also seem to greatly appreciate how they are respected and treated by the company. It's wonderful to have a local family-owned business providing excellent service.
