Save Up to $3,000 on Qualifying Heat Pumps with the Enbridge Home Efficiency Rebate (HER)
The Enbridge Home Efficiency Rebate (HER) program is back! You have the opportunity to receive up to $5,000 in rebates on eligible upgrades like heat pumps, insulation, windows, and doors.
Qualifying Rebates Include:
- Air Source Heat Pump: Up to $1,000
- Cold Climate Air Source Heat Pump: Up to $2,000
- Ground Source Heat Pump Replacement: Up to $3,000
- Ground Source Heat Pump Full System: Up to $1,500
- Heat Pump Water Heater: Up to $500
- Attic Insulation: Up to $1,500
- Exposed Floor Insulation: $300
- Exterior Wall Insulation: Up to $3,600
- Basement Insulation: Up to $3,500
- Air Sealing: Up to $180
- Windows/Doors/Sliding Doors/Skylights: $50 Each
Each home is eligible for a maximum rebate of $5,000 across all qualifying upgrades. An energy assessment, costing up to $600, is required to validate your project and claim your rebate.
How Does the Home Efficiency Rebate (HER) Work?
Complete an initial home energy evaluation
Before making any upgrades, get in touch with an Enbridge Gas-approved service organization. A certified energy advisor will then assess your home and suggest improvements.
Get your recommended upgrades
After the evaluation, the energy advisor will provide you with a customized report detailing energy-saving upgrades tailored to your home.
Complete a minimum of two qualifying upgrades
Contact HAMCO to install your new heat pump system.
Schedule your follow-up assessment
After the upgrades are installed, book a second evaluation. This follow-up assessment, which lasts about an hour, must be done within 120 days of your initial assessment or by December 31, 2025.
Claim your rebates
Rebate cheques, including a $600 reimbursement for the initial and follow-up assessments, will start being issued in January 2025.
What Is a Heat Pump?
A heat pump stands out for its dual functionality, providing both heating and cooling for your home as needed. Rather than investing in separate systems like a furnace and an air conditioner, each with its own maintenance requirements, you can choose a single system that ensures comfort year-round. In cooling mode, a heat pump extracts heat and moisture from the indoor air and releases it outside. In the winter, when heating, it draws warmth from the outdoor air and transfers it into your home.
Why Heat Pumps?
Heat pumps are quickly emerging as the top choice for home heating, and it’s easy to see why. These cutting-edge systems are far more energy-efficient than traditional furnaces and baseboard heaters, with the potential to lower heating costs by up to 50%.
Unlike conventional heating methods, heat pumps work by transferring heat rather than generating it, which leads to a substantial decrease in carbon emissions. If widely adopted, heat pumps could reduce global CO2 emissions by an incredible 500 million tonnes by 2030. By making the switch to a heat pump, you can not only shrink your carbon footprint but also take advantage of significant rebates, offering substantial savings.
Save Energy & Money With a Hybrid Heating System
Heat pumps in a hybrid system are much more energy-efficient than traditional HVAC systems because they transfer heat instead of generating it. With efficiency levels above 100%, they produce more thermal energy than the electricity they consume, leading to lower energy bills and significant cost savings. Additional savings can be gained through grants and rebates – making the switch to a heat pump more affordable.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I participate if I own a home that is not my primary residence?
Absolutely! Enbridge Gas customers who primarily heat their homes with natural gas during the time of your initial energy assessment or the follow-up energy assessment can participate in the HER program, regardless of whether the property is their primary residence or not.
Why do I need to complete two upgrades?
A home’s energy efficiency depends on its interconnected systems. For example, new insulation won’t work as well without proper air sealing. To maximize your home’s comfort and energy savings, follow your energy advisor’s recommendations. Please note: at least three new windows must be installed to qualify as an upgrade.
What is a home energy assessment and how long does it take?
A home energy assessment evaluates how your home uses energy and recommends energy-efficient upgrades. A registered advisor will inspect your entire home to create a personalized energy plan. The initial assessment takes about two hours, while the follow-up is approximately one hour.
Do I have to pay for the home energy assessment?
Homeowners are responsible for initial assessment costs, but these are recoverable through a single rebate up to $600, upon program completion.
Am I eligible for rebates if I’ve already installed my upgrades or started renovations?
No. You must complete a home energy assessment before starting renovations. Any upgrades done beforehand won’t qualify for the Home Efficiency Rebate.
Do I need to hire a professional contractor to complete the work?
Some upgrades, like air sealing, can be done without professional help, with the proper guidance. Although, larger projects like heat pump installation require a professional.
Can I apply for the Canada Greener Home Loan through Enbridge Gas?
The Home Efficiency Rebate is a separate program from the Canada Greener Homes Loan. Ontario residents can apply for the loan through the Canada Greener Homes Loan Portal.
When will HER rebates be awarded?
Rebate cheques will be issued in January 2025 following successful HER program completion.
How long do I have to complete my follow-up home energy assessment?
Complete the follow-up assessment within 120 days of the initial assessment or by December 31st, 2025. Extensions may be possible in certain cases.
Note: For initial assessments done on or after February 6th 2024, and before July 15th 2024, the follow-up must be completed 120 days from July 15th 2024.
Can I go through HER if I’ve already gone through HER+ or a past Enbridge Gas program?
You may qualify for the HER program even if you’ve participated in previous Enbridge Gas programs, but you can’t receive rebates for the same upgrades multiple times. New energy assessments are required.

There I was… with an rv hot water tank that needed to be replaced and some propane lines that were beyond sketchy. I didn’t know how to resolve these issues and who would... take on such a project. I reached out to Hamco and although rv trailers are not something they usually tackle, they cared enough to listen. They understood I needed help and they took this job on. Right away, Nolan was out to do an on-site inspection to get a better understanding of what was involved and what needed to be done. He was so professional, personable and knowledgeable. On June 12, 2024 Nolan returned and again, wasted no time diving in and getting the old hot water tank out and installing the new. Earlier this week Hamco replaced my gas furnace and air conditioner with a new multi stage furnace and heat pump. The team was led by Shemar assisted by Nick, Veronika and... Tony. They were courteous and efficient, and the work of removal and installation of the new system went smoothly. They did a great job of cleanup in the work area, and outside where the hear pump unit is located. Thanks to the installation team, and to Andrew who did the upfront work of finding the right solution for us.read more

Our old rental hot water heater burst, which left us with a bit of a flood and no hot water. We phoned around to the big box retailers to purchase and install a new hot water... tank. The install dates were anything from 7 to 14 days wait. I phone Hamco, and they sent a rep that afternoon to estimate the job. The install was completed next day in 2 hours. Excellent service and competitive price. Highly recommend.read more

Yesterday the Hamco team replaced my furnace and air conditioner, and did a wonderful job! Led by Shemar, they were courteous and efficient, and the work went smoothly.... Shemar added some unexpected touches - a handle for easily removing the filter, and a pouch for storing the manuals - very helpful for a forgetful and arthritic senior! He helped me set my thermostat and talked me through all decisions made. Thank you to a great team: Tony, Jonathan, and Shemar, and to Steve, who did the diagnostic work on the old furnace and a/c. Well I waited a while to write a review til it got "REAL cold". I have to say the HEAT PUMP/AC PUMP we had installed in the summer did an outstanding job dealing with the... entire attic area with ease. It was so comfortable up there (when it was like 40+ degrees outside on those heat wave stretches we had here in old DUNDAS) we just wanted to be up there more often, also noticed the air was very comfortable and clear. Not too dry or humid, kinda just perfect.Our house was built in 1903, pretty typical Edwardian style, long, skinny and REALLY tall. Attic open from front to back of house.NOW that its COLD, prior to this HEAT PUMP install, our attic was an ice box. Tough to enjoy, NOT A PROBLEM NOW THOUGH !!! The heat in there is excellent!! It's just quietly keeping us at 24 degrees or so. The outside unit is so quiet I have to lean into it make sure we are running. Incredible really!! HYDRO bills do not show huge increases. I think we are quite similar in historical billing actually, be being more efficient in other areas. Ii.e. weekend laundry only (OFF PEAK), less fancy lights out back no one really looks at too much.The installer crew were in/out in about 7 hours. Great crew!!"ANDREW" was spectacular from start to finish with his knowledge, confidence and professionalism. I had 3 or 4 discussions with hvac folks, and clearly ANDREW knew the job better then the rest, so we signed with HAMCO!Thx folks, I've recommended you several times.Bread more

I would highly recommend Hamco Heating and Cooling Ltd. We had used their services to maintain our old furnace however when we woke up with no heat one morning, we were very... worried. The technician came without two hours. Unfortunately, it was time to replaced the very old furnace and Bill came right away to next day to give us a quote on a new furnace. Our installation took place the following day and our installers Justin and Nick did an amazing job and were very professional. Thank you to the whole team for caring and making sure we were not left out in the cold for very long.read more

We have been working with HAMCO in Hamilton, ON for over 15 years, to install a high efficiency boiler and a water heater. They have always provided top quality, reliable... service. Recently we installed a heat pump in our house (which is almost 100 years old and has hot water heating). We installed 4 heating/cooling units, one on each floor operated by one large condenser to reduce our carbon footprint and hopefully reduce our gas bill. The installation team of 4 eneregtic young technicians (Veronika, Najim, Josh and Nick) were a delight to work with. They were effciient, fast and completely dedicated. They made sure everything was done to a perfection despite cold weather outside. Thanks very much to them and we recommend them higly to anyone who is considering a heat pump installation.read more

Two technicians ( Najum and Shamar) installed a new gas furnace and hot water tank on a rush basis since my old one failed. They worked well and solved a few install issues... quickly.
