Could your furnace use a helping hand heating your home? A new fireplace could be just the boost your heating system needs to keep you and your family warm all winter long!

Fireplaces are a great way to supplement the heat you get from your furnace on those exceptionally cold days, and they add a nice, cozy ambiance to your home. A fireplace is also an excellent heating contingency plan in the event of a power outage caused by a nasty winter storm. If you think your home would benefit from the addition of a new fireplace, there are a few options to consider.

Vented Gas
Vented gas is an excellent option if you’re in the market for a new fireplace and are looking for a safe alternative to a wood-burning fireplace. Vented gas fireplaces look and feel like a traditional fireplace, but they run on natural gas or propane, so there is no need to have wood on hand. Due to the fact that they’re vented, we have to ensure you have a pre-existing chimney for an insert model or the appropriate clearances for a direct vent model. Because they are vented, they will lose some of their heat through the chimney or wall, but are considered more efficient for heating than wood-burning models, and much safer. You also have the option of various trims, fans, remotes or different rocks or glass embers instead of wood logs.

Electric
When venting or the ability to run gas to the desired location is too difficult, electric fireplaces are the best option by far. Electric fireplaces are easier to install because they don’t require a chimney or vent, so you can put them in any room in your home. Electric fireplaces may not have the natural look or smell of a wood-burning fireplace, but they are getting better with every passing year, and what they lack in aesthetic they make up for with function.

Wood-burning fireplaces definitely offer the most authentic ambiance, but due to potential safety concerns and issues with getting home insurance, this is a type of product that we don’t endorse.
